International driving experts compete at Giethmen

This year we will welcome more than 80 of the world’s best single, pair and team pony drivers. From 11 countries, drivers will find their way to the Lemelerberg: Hungary, Belgium, Luxemburg, France, Germany, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, United States and of course the Netherlands. Preparing for the World Championships (Lipica, Slovenia, September 22-25), the world top drivers will meet in Giethmen.
Who is going to win? Will Melanie Becker, the world’s youngest champion ever, manage to beat her competitor single drivers? Or will the 2010 French marathon winner Maxime Maricourt and his flying pony Juno claim victory? The German winner of the pairs in 2010 will of course defend his title. But how will Marco Freund perform, son of the famous Michael Freund (world champion four-in-hand in 1994)? Or Ewoud Boom, will he return home as the winner? Last year, Tobias Bücker, World champion of 2009, won the four-in-hand competition. Will the gold medal stay in the Netherlands this year? Or go to Belgium? Or will the talented young Hungarian Jószef Dobrovitz take it home? It will definitely be again an exciting competition of world class level!

From Thursday 23rd to Sunday 26 of June 2011 the 3rd edition of Pony Driving Salland will take place: an international combined driving event exclusively for ponies in Giethmen, community of Ommen. This year the Dutch equestrian federation KNHS has assigned the Dutch championships for pony driving to Pony Driving Salland.
The members of the jury who will come to Giethmen from June 23 - 27 to judge the performance of the single-, pair- and team ponydrivers are:
Peter Bonhof, Netherlands (President)
Gerrit Kraai (Netherlands)
Pia Skar (Denmark)
Bert Jambon (Belgium)
Karl-Heinz Wiemer (Germany)
The marathon course will be designed again by Johan Jacobs and Daan van Dijk.

Together with these officials, the organisation of Pony Driving Salland is working on another world class level competition. Pony Driving Salland will be an important step in the preparation of the drivers for the World Championships, to be held from September 22 to 25 in Lipica, Slovenia.
This year the Dutch Championships make Pony Driving Salland even more exciting. The Dutch drivers of single, pair and team ponies compete with each other for the highest position on the podium.
Dutch championship driving for ponies at Pony Driving Salland

Apart from magnificent sport, Pony Driving Salland offers their visitors a varied and appealing program. The entry is free.
The best qualified drivers from European countries such as Belgium, Germany, France, Austria, Hungary, Switzerland, Denmark, Luxemburg, Sweden and of course the Netherlands will measure up to each other. It will be an exciting competition at world class level!
Four days of top-class pony sport. On June 24 and 25 the competitors and their ponies will drive dressage tests that will reduce you to silence. On Saturday June 26 they will drive the spectacular marathon with 8 beautiful obstacles. And finally, a thrilling obstacle course on Sunday June 27 will decide the competition.

This year also is special because Pony Driving Salland is an important step in the preparation for the World Championships later this year in Lipica, Slovenia.

On Saturday June 25 the participants will meet in the spectacular marathon with eight obstacles. And finally, on Sunday June 26 a thrilling obstacle course will decide who the winner is.
The show grounds in Giethmen are beautifully situated at the foot of the Lemelerberg. Apart from magnificent sport, Pony Driving Salland offers their visitors a varied and appealing program. For both young and older. Something for everybody.

A day at the Pony Driving Salland is a particular family day. The entrance to this sport and recreation event is free at all days. There is ample (free!) parking space.
Important notice for participants and visitors:
From the secondary road N348 from Raalte to Ommen (or the other way around) the route is marked by yellow signs. Please follow the signs with letter A to get to the competition area.
Obstacles Pony Driving Salland ready for action

Giethmen is almost ready to receive the international top drivers! On Saturday June the 12th joined forces managed to ground the poles of all 8 obstacles of Pony Driving Salland. Next days will be used to finish and dress up. Last year’s obstacles like the fast water basin, the Salland farms (now with mill and well), the wood sculptures and the country gates are still there. The wood obstacle has been renewed.

Worldchampions compete at the foot of the Lemelerberg

Approximately 80 of the world’s best pony drivers will compete at this top sport event with the style of the Salland region. Amongst them feature the world champions single-, pair- and team pony drivers from 2007 and 2009. Apart from magnificent sport, Pony Driving Salland offers their visitors a varied and appealing program. The entry is free.
The best qualified drivers from European countries such as Belgium, Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, United Kingdom and of course the Netherlands will measure up to each other. 2009 World champion pony team Tobias Bücker (GER), world champion pony pair (Daniel Schneider (GER) who recently switched to team driving, and the young Dutch world champion single pony Melanie Becker (NL) will all come to Pony Driving Salland. But they will have a hard time, as competition is tough. With e.g. former world champion pony team Jan de Boer (NL) and former silver medal winner Aart van de Kamp Jr (NL) with his black and white pony team, and former world champion single pony Peter Koux (DK). It will be an exciting competition at world class level!

Change in judges and schedule

Unfortunately judge Pierre de Chezelles is unable to come to Giethmen. He will be replaced by Mrs Pia Skar from Denmark. Pony Driving Salland is very happy with Mrs Skar as she is on the (preliminary) judgelist for the next ponydriving worldchampionship in Lipica 2011. An excellent replacement! Because of this change the schedule of Pony Driving Salland has been modified. The new schedule can be found under Program \ Schedule.

Carriage tour on the Lemelerberg for sponsors and volunteers

The 1st edition of Pony Driving Salland took place from June 25-28 2009. Thanks to the significant contribution of our sponsors, enthusiastic cooperation of neighbors and the unflagging zeal of countless volunteers we have created a world-class sport event with the style of the Salland region. To thank sponsors, neighbors and volunteers for their effort, Pony Driving Salland has organized an enjoyable carriage tour with a hotchpotch buffet on Sunday the 27th of December.
Over 50 sponsors, neighbors and volunteers accepted the invitation and joined in the cozy tour crossing the beautiful Lemelerberg. Of course there was a sherry stop to make sure all stayed warm. After the tour the guests were treated to a delicious hotchpotch buffet.
Special thanks go to Gerrit Jan Aufderhaar who generously offered the use of his stables. For the occasion these were transformed into a cozy pub full of Christmas atmosphere. Koop Reurink prepared the tasty buffet. And thanks to Mr. Habers and Mr. van de Kolk the guests travelled comfortably in heated coaches.

After a successful first edition of the international driving event for ponies the preparations for 2010 have fully started.
From the 23d to the 27th of June the 2nd edition of Pony Driving Salland will take place at the foot of the Lemelerberg in Giethmen.
Host and organiser is team pony driver Jan Antonissen.
